CANTON — Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Fischer-Mueller would like to remind students and staff that they must self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms each day before entering school buildings as part of the district’s health and safety protocols.
When completing the form each day, staff and students should answer for new symptoms only. If symptoms are related to known conditions such as allergies, chronic cough, or other conditions, the staff member or student’s caregiver should contact one of the numbers on the COVID-19 screening form for a single time clearance.
The form will ask about the following symptoms in regards to new symptoms or symptoms of a household member that day or in the past 24 hours:
- Fever (100° Fahrenheit or higher), felt feverish or had chills
- Cough (not due to other known cause, such as a chronic cough)
- Shortness of breath
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- New muscle aches
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Headache with another symptom
- Fatigue with another symptom
- Nasal congestion or runny nose with another symptom
It is important to note that headache, fatigue and nasal congestion/runny nose are combination symptoms. A “yes” should be answered only when that symptom is experienced when in combination with another symptom.
Staff and students must screen each day for these symptoms and take their temperature before entering school buildings. If symptoms are present as according to the screening form, they cannot attend work or school and should follow the instructions on the form. Staff must report their absence to the building for coverage and must follow instructions on the screener to call the COVID-19 Screening line.
Instructions for Students and Caregivers
Answering “YES” to any of the screening questions requires a call to the school nurse. Caregivers are asked to call their respective school to report their child absent and inform the school nurse.
